The Interface

Evidor's window is divided into a few fixed areas. Once you know what each one is for, everything else in the app becomes easy to find. This page walks through them one at a time, from top to bottom.

The menu bar

Running across the very top of the window, the menu bar holds five dropdown menus, the project name, and the global Export button:

  • File - create, open, and save projects; enable or disable autosave; normalize all audio; open the audio mixer; normalize loudness; save the current frame; generate and toggle proxies; export audio; run the export queue; export subtitles as SRT or VTT; share a review bundle; import review comments; enter review mode
  • Edit - undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, split at playhead, and delete clips
  • View - show or hide the Project media panel, the Inspector, and the Comments panel; fit the timeline to the project; toggle scopes; toggle GPU color grading; reset the layout
  • AI - auto multicam switch, beat detection, and text to speech
  • Help - keyboard shortcuts, documentation, and the bug report link

In the centre of the menu bar is the project name. Click it to rename your project. A small dot next to the name indicates that you have unsaved changes.

On the far right is the settings button, which opens a dialog where you can change defaults, performance options, autosave, the theme, and your author name for comments. Next to it is the blue Export button, which opens the export dialog at any time.

The Project media panel

On the left side of the window is the Project media panel, which lists every file that has been imported into the project. At the top are four controls:

  • Add title - drops a text clip onto the timeline at the playhead
  • Record voiceover - records audio from your default microphone straight into the project
  • Import media - opens the file picker

Below that is a small toolbar with three buttons: Captions, Transcript, and Reframe. Captions and Transcript open the captioning workflow, while Reframe opens the smart reframe dialog.

The rest of the panel is a search field, four filter buttons (All, Video, Audio, Images), and a grid of thumbnails. Each thumbnail shows the file name, its duration or dimensions, and a PROXY badge if a proxy has been generated for it. Right-click a thumbnail to add it to the timeline, rename it, or remove it from the project.

Drag and drop You can drag files directly from File Explorer onto the Project media panel to import them, or drag a thumbnail onto a specific track lane to place it at that position.

The preview

The center of the window is the preview. It shows the frame at the current playhead. Above the preview are three buttons:

  • Multicam - enables the multicam grid view when the current clip belongs to a multicam group
  • Crop - enters crop mode, where you drag the edges of the visible area
  • Format - a dropdown for the project dimensions (1920 x 1080, 1080 x 1920, 1080 x 1080)

Below the preview is the transport bar. From left to right: the current timecode, the duration, a row of playback buttons (go to start, previous frame, play / pause, next frame, go to end), and a fullscreen button.

The preview is also where interactive overlays are drawn. When you enter crop mode, transform mode, motion tracking, or cleanup, the handles and guides appear directly on the preview.

The inspector

On the right is the inspector, which shows the properties of the currently selected clip. When no clip is selected, the panel shows a placeholder. When a clip is selected, the inspector fills with a set of collapsible sections:

  • Clip - the clip name, start time, and duration
  • Animation - the keyframe timeline and a Clear button
  • Transform - scale, position, opacity, and rotation
  • Effect stack - a reorderable list of every effect that can be applied to the clip
  • Presets - apply, save, delete, export, and import color presets
  • Color - basic color, color wheels, curves, HSL secondary, and LUTs
  • Effects - blur, vignette, grain, and detail enhance
  • Speed - constant rate or a preset speed ramp
  • Transitions - in and out transitions on clip boundaries
  • Motion tracking - region picker, analysis, and stabilization
  • Attach to tracker - makes this clip follow another clip's tracked motion
  • Content-aware cleanup - add regions where a moving object should be removed
  • Shape - shape kind, size, colors, and preset animations
  • Text - text content, font, size, weight, color, background, outline, and shadow
  • Animation (for titles) - in and out animations
  • Composite - blend mode
  • Chroma key - key color, tolerance, spill, and edge
  • Masks - rectangle and ellipse masks, each with position, size, feather, and invert
  • Audio - volume, pitch, normalize, and fades
  • Source - the name and details of the underlying media

Sections are collapsible and remember whether you left them open. The row of small diamond buttons next to each property creates a keyframe at the playhead for that specific property.

The timeline

The bottom half of the window is the timeline. Its toolbar holds, from left to right:

  • Undo and Redo
  • Split, Duplicate, and Delete for the selected clip
  • Snap - forces edits to land on grid lines
  • Loop - repeats the in / out region during playback
  • Loop section - repeats a specific range that you set by shift-dragging on the ruler
  • Zoom out, zoom percentage, Zoom in, and Fit
  • Add track - opens a menu with video track, audio track, title, shape, and adjustment layer options

Below the toolbar is the ruler, marked with time values. Click anywhere on it to move the playhead. Drag on it to scrub. Hold Shift and drag to define a loop section. Right-click on it to set in and out points, add a marker, or add a comment at that time.

The main body of the timeline is a stack of tracks. Each track has two halves: the controls on the left, and the lane on the right where clips live. The controls include the track name (click to rename), a volume slider for audio tracks, and buttons for mute, lock, hide (video only), and for audio tracks, voice, solo, and audio effects.

At the very bottom is the status bar, which shows a short message from Evidor (such as Ready or Saved), any active queue progress, the clip count, and the app version.

Resizing Drag the horizontal divider between the preview and the timeline to change how much space each gets. Drag the vertical divider on the left edge of the timeline to widen or narrow the track headers.

The comments panel

If you enable Comments from the View menu, a fourth panel appears on the right side of the window. It lists comments left at specific times in the timeline. Each comment shows the timecode, the author's name, and the comment text. Click the timecode to jump to that spot. Right-click a comment marker on the ruler to resolve, copy, or delete it.

Adjusting the layout

You can rearrange the workspace to suit what you are doing:

  • Toggle Project media, Inspector, and Comments from the View menu
  • Drag the horizontal divider above the timeline to resize it
  • Drag the vertical divider on the timeline to resize the track headers
  • Use Reset layout in the View menu to restore the default arrangement
